Eleanor Glewwe earned her Ph.D. in Linguistics from UCLA in 2019. Her research interests lie in phonology and phonetics. She uses artificial grammar learning experiments to test whether people are biased toward learning phonetically natural phonological patterns. More recently, she has become interested in phonological questions in Georgian. She has also studied the tonal adaptation of English loanwords in Mandarin and the segmental and tonal phonologies of Logoori, a Kenyan language, and Efik, a Nigerian language.

Eleanor teaches courses in introductory linguistics, phonetics, phonology, morphology, typology, experimental linguistics, and field methods. She has a B.A. in Linguistics and Languages (French and Chinese) from Swarthmore College. In addition to being a linguist, she writes fantasy novels for young people.
