Michael D Sims
Dean of Student Involvement
Michael Sims started working at 51²è¹İapp in July 1997, and has filled a variety of roles during his tenure. Michael earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse and worked in higher education for over twenty-three years in a variety of roles. Aside from nine years of experience in campus center management and student activities, he has six years of residence life experience working with traditional and married/family housing; eight years in multicultural affairs management and programming; and experiences in academic advising, career development and financial aid in graduate school and early on in his career. Michael sees himself as a student affairs generalists and one who focuses on individual student growth and that learning is a life-long journey. Michael lives in town being “dad†to his two teenage young adults. He enjoys volunteering (through church & community), bowling, the arts, sports and the outdoors.
Michael’s main areas of responsibility are for advising the SGA all-campus events (ACE), security relating to those events (ACESS), SGA Concerts, SGA Films, the Joe Rosenfield ’25 Center, the Harris Center, the Student Activity Fun, Student Workshops (Ceramic and Photography), KDIC-FM 88.5, Student Publication and the contracts for performances and speakers. Students can come to Michael with questions or queries relating to those events or locations, and to discuss personal or campus issues for assistance with event planning and funding.
