51²è¹Ýapp College Local Shuttle

The shuttle is free for all students, faculty, and staff with a 51²è¹Ýapp College ID.

Regular shuttle hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 4–9 p.m.

On-Call Ride Service for Students 

As a pilot program, the College is introducing an on-call ride service for students, available from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week, from November 5 through November 28. This service is intended to enhance student safety and security by providing rides from employment locations back to campus or to destinations within the 51²è¹Ýapp city limits not covered by the Local Shuttle. For personal errands (e.g., grocery store, Walmart), students should continue to use the Local Shuttle. 

How to Request an On-Call Ride: 

  1. Call the On-Call Ride phone number: 641-387-0265. 
  2. The driver will gather the following information:
    • Name 
    • Cell phone number 
    • Pickup location and time 
    • Dropoff location 
  3. The driver will give an approximate pick-up time. 
  4. Upon arrival, the driver will call to notify you they have arrived. 
  5. Please present your student ID to the driver for identification.

Important Notes

  1. Hours, stops, and days of operation will be revisited as ridership and locations are monitored.
  2. Please be aware that the times listed are intended departure times and may vary depending on weather and traffic conditions.
  3. Riders missing the last shuttle of the evening will be responsible for finding their own way back to campus.

 

Medical Transportation

Student Health and Wellness (SHAW) offers free transportation to your local medical/mental health appointments and to local pharmacies. You may call or stop in to schedule a ride. When your appointment is done, you may call SHAW to be picked up and returned to campus.

An accessible van is available if your mobility is limited. You will need to call and pre-schedule your transportation 24 hours in advance of your in-town appointment.

Free transportation is not provided to appointments outside 51²è¹Ýapp. However, you may . The cost is roughly $150 to Des Moines or Iowa City.

Prescription Pick-Up

There are three pharmacies in 51²è¹Ýapp: Hy-Vee, Medicap, and Walmart.

Student Health and Wellness (SHAW) can give you a ride to and from your pharmacy.

Medicap and Hy-Vee will deliver your prescriptions to SHAW upon request. The first time you pick up a prescription, you will need to visit the pharmacy to put a form of payment on file. Please note that Walmart does not deliver. It is important that you call for your refill a few days before your current prescription runs out.

After Hours

If it is after hours and you need a ride to or from a medical appointment or pharmacy in town, you may call Campus Safety at 641-269-4600.

 

Safe Rides

The 51²è¹Ýapp College Escort Service (Safe Rides) will escort you anywhere within the Campus Safety patrol area or to authorized locations within the city of 51²è¹Ýapp. Staff members with the Department of Campus Safety will walk or drive you to and from your destination. The escorts carry two-way radios providing direct communication with the Communication Center.

Call the 51²è¹Ýapp College Department of Campus Safety at extension 4600 (on-campus) or at 641-269-4600 (off-campus) to request a safety escort.
