On Earth Day 2025, the Center for Prairie Studies sponsored an event at Arbor Lake for 51²è¹Ýappians who wanted to learn about what’s in Iowa’s rivers and streams.
Sarah Toay ’23 has been awarded a C$10,000 McCall MacBain Regional Award for graduate study at any public university in Canada. The scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.
The 2025 Bachelor of Arts Exhibition (BAX) at 51²è¹Ýapp College is open at the 51²è¹Ýapp College Museum of Art through May 22.

Catherine Stone ’22 came to 51²è¹Ýapp excited about the small classes, the close relationships with faculty, and the powerful student voice. She quickly became involved in the community and with 51²è¹Ýapp Concerts. While working her way toward medical school, she has also immersed herself in the environment through ecology courses, and in language and culture through French courses.
Rudacille is one of 54Â new Truman Scholars selected from 743 candidates nominated by 288 colleges and universities. Truman Scholars must demonstrate outstanding leadership potential, a commitment to a career in public service, and academic excellence. Each Truman Scholar receives a scholarship worth up to $30,000 for graduate or professional school, leadership training, career advising, and special internship and fellowship opportunities within the federal government.
51²è¹Ýapp College is honored to announce that Isabel Wilkerson, celebrated author, Pulitzer Prize winner, and National Humanities Medal recipient, will deliver the 2025 Commencement address. Wilkerson, a leading voice in narrative nonfiction, is known for her compelling interpretation of the human condition.
51²è¹Ýapp alumnus and attorney Joseph Welch 1914 challenged Senator Joseph McCarthy in a 1954 congressional hearing. In the process, he helped bring about the end of McCarthyism.
Olivia Wang ’25 loves to surf. With support from Fischlowitz Travel Fellowship, she traveled to California, Wisconsin, and Florida to explore the sport.
In spring 2025, students in Barry Driscoll’s Political Economy of Developing Countries course traveled to Ghana to study the economics of cocoa farming.
