The American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB) announced 51²è¹Ýapp College Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College Beronda Montgomery as the recipient of the 2024 Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Award.  

Montgomery's impact extends far beyond the boundaries of biology. She is deeply invested in studying mentorship and faculty development, seeking to develop evidence-based strategies to foster equity and inclusion across higher education. Through her interdisciplinary approach, she strives to create a more supportive and inclusive academic environment where all individuals can thrive and contribute meaningfully to scientific progress. 

Established in 2022, the ASPB Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Award is a biennial accolade designed to honor ASPB members who have demonstrated outstanding efforts in enhancing diversity and inclusivity within the expansive domain of plant biology. Recipients of this prestigious award are distinguished by their remarkable contributions to mentoring, supporting, and advocating for individuals from underrepresented communities pursuing careers in plant sciences. Additionally, awardees are celebrated for their significant impact through outreach initiatives and service to marginalized communities, serving as inspirational role models for future generations.
