Jennifer Ho will share the intellectual trajectory of her career as an Asian American studies scholar and public humanities & anti-racism advocate, starting with the crucial space of the public library in her hometown and ending with her consulting work for American Girl Doll on the 2022 Doll of the Year, Corinne Tan. The stories we’re told—through history in our K-12 lives, through the books we’re assigned in college, and through the media we consume—influence the stories we’re able to tell about ourselves. Having a wider array of public stories is vital for an anti-racist culture, society, and future.
The daughter of a refugee father from China and an immigrant mother from Jamaica, whose own parents were, themselves, immigrants from Hong Kong, Jennifer Ho is the director of the Center for Humanities & the Arts at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she also holds an appointment as Professor of Ethnic Studies. She is the president of the Association for Asian American Studies and the author of three scholarly books and two edited collections. In addition to her academic work, Ho is active in community engagement around issues of race and intersectionality, leading workshops on anti-racism and how to talk about race in our current social climate. You can follow her on Twitter @drjenho.
This event is co-sponsored by the Center for the Humanities and the Convocation Committee.
