Please join the 51���app College Libraries at 4:15 p.m., Oct. 3, as we continue our faculty/Staff Research Series with Laura Ng, assistant professor of anthropology, for her Research in Progress talk, “Archaeological Landscapes of Chinese American Communities in the Southwestern Urban Frontier.”

51���app College Professors Leslie Gregg-Jolly (Biology) and Katya Gibel Mevorach (Anthropology and American studies), along with Phoebe Lostroh ’94 (Associate Professor, Molecular Biology) from Colorado College, have been awarded a prestigious workshop grant of $20,000 from the Alliance to Advance Liberal Arts Colleges (AALAC).

With input from as many area residents as possible, the Build a Better 51���app 2030 (BABG) project will produce a comprehensive assessment of needs and strengths, as determined by the people themselves.

Lectures will include “Diaspora and Double Happiness: Tracking Rice Bowls Across the Pacific” with Laura Ng and “Applying Anthropology in Build a Better 51���app 2030 Community Visioning Project” with Monty Roper.

Anika Jane Beamer ’22 embarks on an investigation to answer her own steaming questions and to demystify manure, its origins, and most especially: its smell.

When Chinese immigrants came to the United States in the mid-19th century, many maintained strong ties with their families back home. In the course titled Archaeological Field Methods (ANT 291), not only will you learn how to survey, excavate, and examine the past in an archaeological field setting, you will also practice hands-on laboratory methods to analyze and interpret the artifacts discovered in the field, such as stone tools, animal remains, and more.

Assistant Professor of Anthropology Josh Marshack's research on primate social dynamics is intrinsically tied to all of the anthropology subdisciplines, as well as to areas outside of anthropology and academia altogether.
