Stephanie Jones

Stephanie P. Jones, Ph.D. is an associate Professor of Education at 51²č¹Żapp College, where she teaches courses in Youth Culture, Young Adult Literature and Introduction to Educational Studies. Her two research strands examine Black womenā€™s literacy practices and the exploration of racialized trauma in school curriculums. () She is part of the inaugural cohort of Associated Colleges of the Midwest Mellon Faculty Fellows and was recently awarded the STAR fellowship through the Literacy Research Association. She is working on a forthcoming manuscript about the intersections of surveillance, curriculum violence, and racialized trauma.  

 
After teaching for six years with Atlanta Public Schools, Dr. Jones transitioned to graduate studies at the University of Georgia with the support of SREB Doctoral Scholars of Color fellowship.  There, she focused on the literacy practices of Black American women and their adolescent reading choices. In addition to her academic duties as a teacher educator and researcher, Dr. Jones consults with school districts and other educational organizations on building anti-racist curriculums and pedagogies.  Her work can be found in Signal, Learning for Justice magazine,  English Journal, Literacy Research: Teaching, Methods, and Practice, and English Teaching Practice and Critique.
