Tornado Season in Iowa
In case of a tornado, immediately seek shelter in the lowest floor of a sturdy building, ideally in a small interior room like a closet or bathroom, away from windows, or under a stairwell. If outdoors, lie flat on the ground in a low area, covering your head with your arms, and stay away from trees and vehicles. Never try to outrun a tornado in your car. If driving and a tornado is approaching, pull over and seek shelter.
There are several tornado sirens that will activate in case of an approaching tornado. In the off season, the siren is tested the first Saturday of each month.
